The Scattered Star Dress

My wardrobe is a jumble of dark, plain shades and although I won't be moving away from black any time soon (if at all), I wanted to stir in some fun pieces and add a pinch of pattern to my rails.

I'd been eyeing up this star print dress ever since I spotted ASOS Megan (now Megan Ellaby) had tweeted a sneak peak of what was about to hit the ASOS cyber shelves. So, a few months later when I spotted it in the sale I immeditely hit 'add to basket' and waited for the infamous knock on the front door.

It has actually taken me a while to wear it as I'm forever having problems with my low slung shoulders which basically means that tops always hang a little too low and i need to adjust the straps and shoulders. However, to give my sewing machine a little rest I simply added a black spaghetti top underneath to add a little day time modesty!

It's the type of dress you can wear in the day with some ankle boots and simple accessories or throw on at night with some heels, minus the bra (or opt for a plunge style) and layer with bracelets and a long line necklace.

I’ve wanted to get my teeth professional whitened for a while now but with extortionate price tag, it just isn’t worth thinking about. In the past I’ve used whitening tooth paste which didn’t really do a hell of a lot and also the infamous whitening strips you can only buy in America which did work but were a little too harsh and made my teeth quite sensitive.

So when I was given the chance to review a teeth whitening kit that is peroxide free, affordable and can be purchased in my local beauty store, I jumped at the chance. IWhite promises instant results from first use and uses calcium technology to not only whiten teeth but strengthen the enamel. The product lined trays make it easy to use, convenient and fuss free without causing any mess.

So how does it work? It’s as simple as tearing off the sealed foil to reveal the prefilled tray, popping it comfortably in your mouth without pushing too hard (as you need to keep the product contained) and waiting 20 minutes. The trays are comfortable to wear and the peroxide free formula doesn’t really have a taste however there is a small case of the dribbles!

After 20 minutes you can pop the trays into the bin and rinse your mouth thoroughly. The product does stick to the back of your teeth so I found better to brush them as normal. Did I see instant results after the first use? Not noticeably in the mirror however when I viewed the images on my camera I felt that they looked slightly lighter… slightly.

After 5 consecutive days of using IWhite for 20 minutes a day I had noticed that my teeth definitely looked a couple shades whiter, maybe not as much as 8 (mainly as my teeth weren't that discolored before) but definitely around 3 shades whiter. The enamel that had worn away slightly at the tips of my teeth were now in fact less visible and the overall appearance has improved.

So would I buy this again? Definitely, for around £30 a box it’s does actually give noticeable results unlike some teeth whitening products. Maybe not extreme results that a professional would give but  enough to bring your confidence back!

Valentine's Day At Lush Manchester

Last week I was invited to Manchester’s first Lush event held at the Market Street store to celebrate the launch of the new Valentine’s Day collection.

I and a handful of other bloggers were lucky enough to explore the store after closing time giving us the opportunity to delve deep into its contents and ask informative questions.

Not only were we let loose to ogle over the packed shelves and sample the products but we also were given the chance to make the infamous ‘The Comforter’ bubble bar which coincidentally is one of my favourite Lush products!

It was interesting to see the simple and raw ingredients that go into making their ethical and natural products, not to mention the fun element of creating our own. But as well as having the chance to explore the store, pick the brains of the incredibly friendly staff and be more hands on with the Lush products, we were also introduced to the Valentine’s Day themed collection.

The collection is all about romantic, fun and flirty scents with playful colours and novelty touches and we were kind enough to be given a selection to try!

Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar
A crumbling bubble bar with uplifting neroli oil, ylang ylang and lavender. Dispersing a magical bubble fort surrounded by a shimmering purple moat and a relaxing/ uplifting scent.

Prince Charming Shower Cream
A bright pink shower gel with an uplifting grapefruit and pomegranate scent softened with vanilla and cocoa butter. To me its marshmallow scent is almost similar too Turkish delight!

Lover Lamp Bath Bomb

One of the cutest bath bombs made with softening cocoa butter. This bath bomb disperses small and large buttery red hearts that when massaged into the skin releases a chocolate orange scent.

Soft Coeur Massage Bar
A comforting toffee scented massage bar with almond oil and cocoa butter surrounding a honey and cocoa inner centre leaving skin smelling delicious.

10 Ways To Prep For Your First Blogger Event

You’ve been invited to attend your first blogging event, you’re a little nervous and you don’t know what to expect? Don’t back out last minute, your first event may be a little nerve wracking but once you've been to one you'll know what to expect when you're invited to the next. After you've taken part in a couple or so blogger events you'll start to see some familiar faces whom you'll be able to catch at future events!

1. Find out who is going. Search Twitter hashtags, Facebook groups or ask the brand for a list. If you know who to expect you won’t miss out on making connections or meeting blogger friends.

2. Plan your journey. Make sure you know exactly where the event is being held, organise your transport for both the inward and outward journey and find nearby points of reference so you don’t get lost. This way you won’t fret that you’re going to get lost or be late!

3. Get there early. If it’s your first event you, the earlier the better to give you chance to talk to the brand and also make acquaintances as they slowly filter through the door. Obviously don’t get there an hour before but a good 5 minutes earlier is perfect. Sometimes bloggers end up in their own little ‘catch up’ groups so it’s nice to get there before groups start to form.

4. Dress to impress. Wear something you feel confident in or buy something new. Usually the dress code for blogging events is pretty casual (unless stated) so don’t feel the need to wear something like a party dress however if you feel more confident in a sparkly number then wear it!

5. If you’re a little nervous about being the first there or don’t want to go alone, find a blogger friend to partner up with. Simply ask on Twitter or Facebook if anyone wants to meet before, there are usually a handful of people who are going alone and would love the company too!

6. Know that blogging events can be quite similar. They usually consist of food, drink, demonstrations and hands on product testing. You’re never pressured and are free to wonder around to take photos, talk to bloggers, brands and generally sample what’s on show.

7. Keep an eye on Twitter hashtag and learn names. Once you’ve been at the event for half an hour or so have a quick look on Twitter for the hashtag. See who’s using it, find them in the room using their profile photo and approach them by asking if they’re (insert name or twitter handle). Yes, it’s that easy to get talking to another blogger!

8. Take blogging business cards. If you don’t have any printed it’s not the end of the world but business cards are a great way to pass on your details to brands and other bloggers if you’ve discussed collaborating.

9. Bring your camera! Whether it's your phone, digital camera or an SLR you may or may not use it depending on the event you're going too but always take it just in case! Sometimes i get snap happy at events If I'm looking too create a blog post from it but other times I've got too involved chatting about the products and catching up with fellow blogger friends that I've forgot!

10. Don’t back out last minute. Consider all the time and effort the brand has put into hosting the event, the worst thing to do (unless you have a reason then do email them ASAP before the event) is to not show up and not let them know. Your space could have gone to someone else who would happily take it up, so go. Even if you don’t stay for the whole event, turning up for as long as you can means you’ll stay on the brands books and they’ll thank you for showing your face!
