Healthy Flourless Protein Cookies Recipe

Melt in the mouth, 5 ingredient, healthy, protein cookies. Why wouldn't you want to make these? They're the perfect guilt free weekend treat, ideal to use as a  pre-workout energy snack or even as an on the go breakfast fuel!

I'm always on the hunt for healthier alternatives for my favourite treats with easy recipes that contain ingredients I already have lying around in my kitchen cupboards. Minus the coconut sugar(which i picked up from my local health store) i was in luck when i stumbled across the perfect recipe for mouth watering protein fueled cookies. The small number of ingredients used makes it incredibly simple to switch them up and put your own twist on a great recipe! My twist? 1 cookie, 2 flavours.

Vanilla Choc Chip Recipe
1 cup of peanut butter or almond butter
1/2 cup of protein powder (MyProtein Vanilla - flavour optional)
1/4 cup of choc chips (dairy free optional)
1/3 cup coconut sugar
1 medium egg

Mint Choc Chip Recipe
1 cup of peanut butter or almond butter
1/2 cup of protein powder (MyProtein (*) Mint Choc Chip - flavour optional)
1/4 cup of cocoa powder & choc chips (dairy free optional)
1/3 cup of coconut sugar
1 medium egg

1.       Heat the oven to gas mark 6 (180c) and grease 1 medium sized baking tray
2.       Add the egg, sugar, protein powder and choc chips (and cocoa for mint choc chip recipe) into a bowl and mix together
3.       Once the mixture has combined add the almond/ peanut butter into the other ingredients and fold into the mixture. At first the mixture will appear runny but will soon thicken into a dough texture.
4.        Repeat step 1 and 2 to create the 2nd flavour of protein cookie
5.       Take 1 small tablespoon of vanilla dough and 1 small tablespoon of mint choc chip dough, roll into 2 separate dough balls and press together sealing the gap.
6.       Place the cookie dough onto the pre-greased baking tray and press down into the desired shape. Make sure you leave a 1.5inches between each cookie to leave room for expanding.
7.       Place the cookies in the oven for approx. 20 minutes or until cracks appear on the top of each cookie.
8.       Leave to cool and serve. For best results I recommend popping them into the fridge for an hour to give them that extra ‘crunch’.

Top 5 Flushes of Spring Blushers

Out with the pale matt skin, bold eyes and berry lips: In with the dewy base, barely there mascara and a flush of spring blush. One of my favourite makeup looks has to be that fresh spring skin (unless you break out then it’s the worst!) with a healthy glow and barely there makeup. It’s fun to play around with light contouring to create that natural fresh faced look.

With that there's one product hiding away in your makeup bag that’ll instantly transition your everyday makeup without breaking the bank. Whether its creams, powders, tints or lacquers that you prefer, adding a ‘spring’ shade of blush to your everyday makeup routine can freshen your face and give you that healthy dewy look.

Here’s my top 5 favourite shades to add a flush of spring blush to your everyday makeup:

1. Vivo Baked Blush – Peaches & Cream
I’ve had this blusher for years so I’m hoping you can still get your hands on it! It’s my go to everyday shade if I’m opting for a peachy pink pop of colour with a natural glow. The shade is pretty much a dupe for the ever so popular Nar’s blush in ‘Orgasm’ with equally buildable pigment and no glitter. It works beautifully with a matt base giving an instant lift to the cheek bones and spring pop of colour.

2. No7 Pop & Glow Blush Stick – Mango Sorbet
I’ve never been a fan of cream blushers until I purchased this little tube of ‘Mango Sorbet’ gold. The No7 Pop & Glow blush is an orange/peach shade with a cream to powder finish and matt look. Easy to apply applying by dabbing it straight onto your cheeks with a twist motion or warm it up on your fingers and pop it onto the apple of the cheeks. This shade leaves a natural barely there finish that works great alongside a dewy base on both pale or tanned skin.

3. Glo Minerals – Sweet
The Glow Minerals powder blush in shade ‘Sweet’ is a pale pink/ pastel peach shade with a slight gold highlight. A perfect natural barely there shade that adds a healthy glow to the cheeks on the first application or build up the pigment for a more noticeable but equally natural flush of colour.

4. The Body Shop Shimmer Waves – Coral
The ultimate cheek shimmer to create a dewy spring finish over a light/ matt foundation. This pretty little brick of Spring themed blush waves creates a beautifully highlighted finish with just a touch of colour. I prefer to use this product to highlight the tops of my cheekbones after heavy contouring as it instantly lifts the cheeks and compliments a golden glow.

5. The Body Shop All-In-One Cheek Shade – Macaroon

As well as the Vivo Baked Blush, The Body Shop Cheek Shade in the shade ‘Macaroon’ is another of my favourite every day shades. When I’m opting for dewy skin or a bronze glow I pop on this peachy pink matt shade. The product itself has medium pigment with buildable coverage that works beautifully on the apples of the cheeks to add a pop of healthy colour.

On Trial: MyProtein CLA & Omega 3 Supplements (*)

Two very well-known vitamins have finally made their little way into my diet. I was recently contacted by MyProtein to ask if I’d like to review some products from their website. Of course if you’ve seen my ‘Healthy Recipes’ you’ll know that my main ingredient is MyProtein Whey Powder so already being a huge fan I said yes!
I chose 1 product that’s a very well-known supplement (Omega 3) and 1 product I haven’t heard about at all but was intrigued to try (CLA).

MyProtein Omega 3
Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid found in sources of fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines as well as plant sources such as nuts and seeds. It contributes to the healthy maintenance and normal function of the heart, brain and eye sight. Omega 3 can also curb rheumatoid arthritis, depression, baby development and asthma alongside many others.

The MyProtein 1000mg container provides you with 90 soft gel capsules which are instructed to be taken 1 to 3 times a day. So in total that can give you between 30 to 90 days’ worth of Omega 3!
I’ve firstly consumed the Omega 3 once a day (in the morning) however more recently I’ve been having trouble with RSI so I’ve upped my consumption to 2 times a day and possibly will try 3. I did notice since the trial that my skin is less dry and both my hair and nails are growing at a pretty quick rate. However I’m yet to see a difference with overall general health of my bones as they do seem a little stiff now and again and also RSI hasn’t improved but this will be due to my lifestyle.

MyProtein CLA
Conjugated Linoleic Acid is a naturally occurring fatty acid that cannot be produced by the human body but is consumed through dairy or animal sources. It is a potent anti-oxidant and a powerful immune system enhancer that upon consummation can aid in the assistance of boosting your metabolic rate, enhancing muscle growth, lowers cholesterol and lowers insulin resistance.

The MyProtein 1000mg container provides you with 60 soft gels, so that’s 10 full days of CLA use. The soft gel tablets are quite large however their silicone exterior makes them very easy to swallow.
It is instructed that you consume 2 tablets 3 times a day with every meal which firstly makes it easier to remember to take them and also doesn’t interrupt your day.

After 10 days of consuming CLA I unfortunately didn’t notice any difference with weight loss or muscle mass however I did notice that the week in which I wasn’t eating too ‘healthy’, I did managed to maintain my weight and my stomach didn’t bloat. I can imagine that these capsules would work better alongside an exercise programme as they are a metabolism booster however as I’m not a ‘gym bunny’ I don’t believe I got as much out of them as I could have.

Dress: ASOS, Shirt-NewLook, Bag-Promod, Boots-Topshop, Necklace-Topshop, Scarf-H&M, Feather Bracelet-Rings&Tings, Bead Bracelet-Market, Sunglasses-Folli&Follie

We’ve been having such beautiful Spring weather recently, it’s nice to finally have the opportunity to don my Folli Follie shades, go outdoors and take some outfit snaps! The temperature is at the point where it’s just about okay to venture out without a jacket but the chill from the wind requires a layer or two.

This has pretty much been my ‘go to’ outfit for casual weekend wanderings and coffee shop visits. The ASOS long ribbed midi dress is super comfortable although the spaghetti straps (as with every top/ dress I buy) where a little too long so I’ve had to knot them up to shorten them. It seems to be difficult to find dresses/ tops with adjustable straps and when you finally do they are so much pricier!

The khaki green utility shirt is a key piece in anyones wardrobe. It is a strong, versatile piece to wear buttoned up with a statement necklace, tucked into a skirt, worn over leggings, with jeans or (as styled) its the perfect shirt to throw on over a black or grey dress and look effortlessly put together.

I’ve also never had my feet out of these beige cut out ankle boots from Topshop, they are the perfect transitional  ankle boot to take you from winter through to spring. The beige shade also means they go with every outfit i own, although thats not difficult when your wardrobe doesn't consist of colour!

Ma's Bars Hand Made Bath & Skincare Products (*)

Ma’s Bars is a vegetarian bath and skincare brand producing handmade natural products that are completely free from sodium sulphates, parabens and colourings, plus they're animal friendly too. From deliciously scented body butters, sugar scrubs, soaps and shampoo bars to invigorating body oils, candles and even a little something for the men! All their products are locally sourced in and around the Oldham, Manchester area so for those who live in the North West UK go check them out!

What I love most about this brand is it's clean, classic and vintage inspired way of storing their products. From brown paper packages, sweet (and informative) labelled jars and medicine style bottles to the pop corn filled package keeping your delivery from breakage, every product has that handmade touch that you just don't get from the high-street.

I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to review a handful of products from their rather delicious sounding bath and skincare range and also give my support to local independents!

Lemongrass & Oats Soap (olive oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil, lye, lemongrass essential oil, oats)
A solidified moisturising bar of soap with beneficial, zingy lemongrass and soothing natural oats. The product itself looks beautifully put together with its unintentional smokey like appearance. The soap itself has a stronger scent when it comes in contact with water, it lathers up nicely and delicately smoothes over the skin. It's the perfect scent to help you to get up and go in the mornings, plus the oats and super moisturising too!

Rosemary & Spearmint Shampoo (coconut oil, olive oil, rice bran oil, castor oil, rosemary essential oil, spearmint essential oil)
Soap for your hair? Nope this is a solidified shampoo bar. The shampoo is made from essential ingredients that help to cleanse the hair and also penetrate deep into the scalp to prevent dryness. On application (to preserve the bar) I broke small part of the product off and rubbed the bar onto wet hair, waiting for it to lather up before massaging it into the scalp. The product itself creates a tingling sensation that leaves your hair feeling fresh, clean and healthy.

Key Lime Pie Body Butter (coconut oil, shea butter, olive oil, lime essential oil, vanilla extract)
You will not believe how amazingly delicious this product smells so much so you almost wish it was edible! My favourite, the body butter itself is a whipped, lightweight butter that upon application melts into the skin to form nourishing oil that instantly hydrates and gives the skin a healthy glow. Of course, this is all whilst leaving your skin smelling incredibly fresh, energised and ready to go. What I love most about this product is a little goes a long way so this small but mighty jar will last you a good month or two.

Grapefruit & Orange Sugar Scrub (sugar, olive oil, coconut oil, grapefruit essential oil, orange essential oil)
An uplifting and awakening sugar scrub that’d be the perfect essential to lazy mornings or energise your mind in the evenings. The product itself contains 2 nourishing oils which ideally make it a 2 in 1 product for exfoliating and moisturising. The oils also help the sugar to be less abrasive on the skin making it perfect for those who are a little more sensitive skin types. After massaging the product over the skin, rinsing it off and stepping out of the bath, my skin was ridiculously soft, supple and smooth that there's no need for further moisturising!

Get Up & Go Massage Oil (grapeseed oil, ginger essential oil, grapefruit essential oil)
An oil that you can use either to massage into the skin or add a few drops into your bath to create a relaxing yet uplifting atmosphere. I know for a fact that ginger is an essential warming and energising oil that when adding to a bath can help ease aches, pains and stimulate the mind. There for I added around 8-10 drops into warm running water and instantly my bathroom transformed into a beautifully scented spa! I’m yet to rope in the other half for a massage but the benefits of the ingredients would work amazingly upon direct contact with the skin.

Handmade Tangerine Candle
I recently lit this candle whilst Spring cleaning my flat and the tangerine scent really made the room smell like Spring! The scent isn't too pungent but gives off just enough to make a room smell noticeably fresh and fruity! For me its very much a day time candle and goes hand in hand with the zingy scent of the sugar scrub and body butter. An awakening and uplifting scent that's perfect to light in Spring and Summer.

My Everyday Spring Makeup Look
Sleek Control & Shine Primer, Ginvera BB Cream (one shade), Max Factor False Lashes Mascara (black), Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade (dark brown), Rimmel Stay Matt Powder (translucent), L'Oreal Super Liner (black), The Body Shop Lightening Touch (shade 1), TBS Colour Crush Lipstick (shade 320), TBS Eyeshadow (clementine/ champagne), TBS Cheek Colour (macaroon)

I love the transition of seasonal makeup looks, from bold winter lips and thick lashes to fresh spring blush and dewy skin.  It’s the perfect opportunity to raid your makeup drawer, discover old favourites and buy some new ones too!

For me, my daily makeup look doesn’t change considerably too much. My brow product, mascara, and liquid liner stay the same but to ‘Spring clean’ my makeup bag I tend to switch up my base products and add in some colour.

Before applying the makeup I love to use a primer as it means my skin is protected and also my makeup will look smoother and last longer, for this I used the Sleek Primer which is an ultimate dupe for the Benefit Porefessional!

For the actually makeup look itself I used my favourite BB Cream by Ginvera which gives light-medium coverage with a healthy dewy finish. I then used The Body Shop Lightening Touch under my eyes and along the tops of my cheek bones. This is my holy-grail brightening eye product as it has a pink tone that once blended into the skin leaves a naturally brightening finish. To set my base I powdered my face with a product I’ve used since my teens… the Rimmel Stay Matt Powder in Translucent. This is a finely milled compact powder that sets makeup without looking ‘cakey’.

After this I tend to contour and fill in my brows using the Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade in shade ‘Dark Brown’ with at small dense angled brush. To apply this product a little goes a long way so I take the tiniest amount of and use my hand as a palette creating no product waste.

My base makeup doesn’t really change when it comes to seasonal makeup transitions, it’s more about brightening the eyes and adding a pop of colour to the cheeks!  There for on my eyes and pulled out The Body Shop Colour Crush peachy eye shadow in the shade ‘Be My Clementine’. I used this shade all over the base of the socket and then highlighted under my brows and the inner corners of my eye in the shade ‘Champagne’ to open up the eye and raise the brows.

Once I had applied my shadow  I then used the L’Oreal Super Liner which is a thick black felt tip liquid liner that is super easy and quick to apply. I used this to create a small cat eye and then finished off the eyes with the Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara in the shade ‘black’.

To pull the look together and create a glowing Spring feel I added a peachy, pink pop of colour to the cheeks using The Body Shop All In One Cheek Colour in the shade ‘Macaroon’. I also sealed off the overall look with a deep peachy/pink berry lip using The Body Shop Colour Crush in the shade 320 ‘Berry In Love’.
