L- R Collection 2000 Revenge 3, Rimmel Kate 107, Bourjois Rouge Podium 15, MUA Shade 3, Gosh Temptation 165 and Rimmel Apocalips Stellar 501
As I’ve mentioned in a previous post I’m a huge lipstick addict, I typically carry 3 different shades around with me in my handbag for those ‘just in case occasions’ whether I need a little something to brighten my face, take the focus away from my melting makeup or if I’m heading out straight after work and need a little something to spruce up and feel good. I can guarantee that to some my lipstick collection looks almost identical from one to the next but to me they’re all completely different.
Lipsticks for me are the perfect winter accessory for times when you just can’t be bothered with a full face of makeup and to rush out the door but still look like you’ve at least made a small effort. Nudes are great with heavy eye makeup, berry lips with bare eyes and red lipsticks with the classic liquid liner flick.
For me, although I’m all for a deep berry lip in festive months of winter, I only have a small collection as I don’t know about you but I find it pretty darn hard to find a shade that compliments my skin tone. I find that pinks, corals and orange-red tones suit my skin better than deep purple and black reds which tend to bring out the reddish tones in my skin (similar too Collection 2000 Revenge 3) which actually looks better when I have a tan.
But for the past few weeks aside from my everyday ‘your lips but better’ shades these 6 beauties are what I’ve been reaching for:
Collection 2000 Revenge 3
As I mentioned above this shade does pull out the reddish tones in my natural skin but otherwise it's the perfect berry shade that isn’t too dark or rich. The lipstick has undertones of a brighter red within the darker shade which compliments tanned skin beautifully and looks great glammed up for a night out.
Rimmel Kate 107
This lipstick is a medium red matt shade with buildable coverage. It isn’t too thick and considering it is a matt product it doesn’t dry out the lips! I find that Rimmel lip products stick around for longer than some higher end shades and with a pencil lip liner this shade would look flawless as a daily red.
Bourjois Rouge Podium 15
Bourjois are my number one brand for lipsticks. The formula is silky and deeply nourishing with high pigmentation. This shade is a light/medium red colour with peachy tones. It is one of those perfect every day lipsticks that brighten up the face and compliment a sheer peachy blush.
MUA Shade 3
On application this product is a super creamy formula that appears on the lips as a milky bright pink. This lipstick is a definite handbag product as it doesn’t bleed there for doesn’t require a lip liner and can be thrown on without a mirror! Considering this is only £1 it isn’t just another cheap lipstick and the pigmentation is very impressive.
Gosh Temptation 165
A bold, hot pink shade that compliments pale to medium skin tones beautifully. GOSH is another of my favourite brands for lipsticks as they almost feel like a lip protector too! I’ve worn this shade a number of times and can honestly say that it has major staying power on the lips after drinking coffee! Again similar to the MUA shade GOSH lipsticks don’t require a lip liner and can be applied blindfolded.
Rimmel Apocalips Stellar 501
The infamous Rimmel lip product. These lip laquers honestly live up to their online hype. I love them so much that I will own up to having every shade of the first collection released from Rimmel! Don’t get me wrong they’re no ‘throw on and go’ lip product but flip out a mirror and once applied they last quite a while with the odd top up. I find the best way to apply this product in a rush is dabbing four dots on the bottom lip, rub them together and go. The product almost makes the lips look more plump, healthy and smooth. This shade has always been my favourite alongside ‘Luna’ (a bright peachy nude) as I find coral is the best shade to compliment my skin tone… the perfect mix of red, orange and pink.
