I’d been after a new camera for a while, My SLR felt too bulky to be
running around with and my trusty compact digital canon just didn’t quite cut
the mark when it came too using additional shooting modes to create effects. But
after a good few months trying to seek out the best camera for my needs and the
researching like crazy to make sure I chose the right one, I finally settled on
this little beauty... the Sony A5000 Compact System Camera.
There are 5 main reasons why I chose the Sony A5000 Compact System Camera:
1.It has a 180 degree 3 inch flip screen which
is perfectly suited for when I’m creating blog posts that require physical
close ups or beauty shots. It also means that I can pop the camera onto a
tripod and using the self-timer or your PlayMemories App as a remote, I can
take my own photographs. Not only that but if you’re taking selfies of vlogging/
creating videos it couldn’t be more useful to reassure you that you’re in focus
and ‘in shot’.
2.It is the world’s lightest compact camera
with interchangeable lenses making it ultimate hybrid of a both a compact and digital
SLR camera. It has all the best physical features of a compact camera (lightweight,
portable and hands on) with all the much needed features of an SLR (interchangeable
lens capability, shooting modes and higher quality full HD photographs) The
Sony A5000 comes with a 16-50mm lens which provides Full HD high resolution
images of 1080p and an APS-C image sensor for fast focusing.
3.It has Wi-Fi. I use social media on a daily
basis and having a camera in which I can instantly transfer images to and from my
phone, computer or TV is a must. Sony have even created a user friendly App
called PlayMemories in which you can send your images with the press of a button
to your device in which is delivers stunning Blue-ray picture quality. The App also
lets you edit your photos/videos with features that can enhancing portraits/
close ups and creating time lapse and stop motion shots.
4.It has a built in pop-up flash with ISO. This
makes shooting in just about any lighting situation a breeze, ensuring people and
subjects are perfectly lit and help you to capture higher quality exposed
shots. It’s also ideal for those who are out and about ‘vlogging’ as there is a
feature to enable the flash to stay active throughout filming.
5.The camera itself comes with a ton of
features. I’ve yet to use them all but
the features include: Posterisation (Color B/W), Pop color, Retro Photo,
Partical Color (R,G,B,Y), High Contract Monochrome, Toy Camera, Soft High-Key,
Soft Focus, HDR Painting, Rich-tone Monochrome, Minature, Watercolour and
illustration. The biggest advantages of this camera is that it on the back of
the body it has a “?” symbol. This can be pressed at any time when you don’t quite
understand a certain feature and it will provide you with a short but detailed explanation. I’ve
used this a lot as it’s a much needed feature that can help you to explore and
understand the ins and outs of your camera and how to use it to its full
I’ve yet to jump into the YouTube world but I've been dabbling in the idea of possibly starting to do some ‘Vlogging’. Which leads me onto another feature this camera holds (aside
from filming in full HD) it contains two microphones at either side of
the lens which enables the camera to capture sound more clearly with a crisp
clear outcome to your video content.
The Sony A5000 itself retails at the reasonable (or I think impressively
cheap price) of £269. The box comes with a charger, lens, battery, shoulder
strap and micro USB cable.
If you like the physical feel of a compact with the all the features of
an SLR then this is what you’re looking for. I’ve had it for a good few months
now and I’m still learning to use the features to my full advantage but its
honestly the best camera I’ve owned!
