Winter weather conditions can leave your skin feeling dry, dull, chapped and uncomfortable. But it isn’t just the cold that you need protection from. When the dark nights creep in and your skin care regime changes, have you thought about sun protection?
It might seem odd as you pack away your sunscreen with your summer dresses but your skin needs protection all year round especially in those forgotten winter months.

So here’s a beauty girls guide to protecting your skin from that forgotten winter element…

The SPF Moisturiser
Years ago it may have been a little harder to find a moisturiser containing an SPF higher than 10. However these days sun protection has become a subject widely spoken about and brands have cottoned on to that added bonus ingredient. The Estee Lauder Day Wear Advance Multi Protection Anti-Oxidant & UV Defence Cream is the perfect non greasy and light moisturiser containing a high SPF of 50. I’ve recently added this into my skin care regime and have noticed a huge difference with the finish of my makeup after application. The moisturiser leaves a protective layer over the skin that not only protects your skin from UV rays but also acts as the perfect primer for makeup!

The Multitasking Coverage
In the winter months I typically switch my makeup base to formula that contains active ingredients that aid the skin throughout wear. Previously this would be a mineral powder with medium coverage as this product contains hydrating ingredients that also lets the skin breath. But more recently have been introduced to a product that I previously wasn’t a fan of… a BB cream.  But the Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream isn’t just your average beauty balm or tinted moisturiser (for me anyway). It’s the first BB cream I’ve been introduced to that is exactly what I’ve been looking for. It has a light-medium buildable coverage and a non-greasy formula that on application blends into the skin effortlessly matching my skin tone almost exact. The finish of this product although stated ‘Matt’ I would say it is a matt to very natural dewy finish that controls oil and lets skin breath, all whilst protecting the skin with an SPF 30.

The Protective Lipstick
I’ve countless amounts of lip products tucked away in my drawers, so much so I’d even go as far as saying I might have a lip moisturising addiction (if that’s what you would call it). Too keep your lips hydrated, supple and smooth, a good lip protector/ moisturiser is a must in these colder months. The most recent addition to my collection is the Decleor Paris Nutri Smoothing Lipstick. The formula contains coconut, hazelnut oil and shea butter to inject hydration into the lips while protecting them with a shea waxy layer that works incredible as a primer for lipstick. Although it contains coconut and hazelnut oil the scent of the product is very much ruled by a beautiful aroma of shea butter. It is also the perfect handbag multitasking product as due its matt finish it can be used on areas of the skin that are prone to drying out especially if you have a cold (such as around the nose).

The Stylish Eye Protection
Sunglasses are the type of accessory that will see you throughout the whole year. They work wonders for those hang over days, ‘can’t be bothered to wear makeup days’ and are more commonly and ultimately the most stylish sun protection around. I own around 5 pairs of sunglasses and half of those don’t actually have UV protective lenses. This is why I think it’s sometimes better to invest a little more money in that classic pair of sunglasses that will protect your eyes with UV lenses. These Folli Follie Wayfarer Sunglasses are the perfect everyday pair, with their classic tortoise shell frames and sultry dark green lenses, they ooze glamour whilst protecting you from the winter rays.
