Easter Weekend: A trip to Chester

We decided to use the four day Easter weekend as an opportunity to travel out of Manchester and see some new sights. It was a coin toss between York and Chester (both equally as pretty) and so eventually we wandered to the train station to take the 12.40pm train too York. However, after reaching the ticket machine and seeing the rather pricey £32 return ticket flash up on the screen we rethought our original plan and decided on Chester instead!

We’ve been to Chester a few times now and typically end up roaming around the high street shops and then into the local coffee shop for a bite to eat. We kind of wanted to break that routine and venture down the pretty side streets towards the more independent shops and get a little lost.

Straight off the train we scooted up the high street and hopped down the quietest side street we found at the end of town. We stumbled across an industrial, vintage and retro home ware shop called Arbol House in which I could of bought the whole store! Traditional  glass milk bottles, old school sugar pourers, quirky wooden crate storage boxes, cage frame ceiling lights and cute crystal cake domes.

After snapping some photos of pretty buildings and quaint hidden occupied terraces we found our way back to town to grab some grub at Carluccios. I can’t say I’ve ever been before and did stereotypically open the menu for the pizza section. Obviously there was no dough based dish (duhhh!) so I unusually opted for a pasta dish. I chose the ‘Linguine Al Frutti Di Mare’ – a garlic, chilli and herb pasta dish with squid, muscles and prawns which was good and the boyfriend opted for the Penne Alla Luganica – a rich and spicy Italian sausage sauce pasta. And yes he did finish his dish way before mine, spaghetti is good an all but it does take you twice as long to devour the dish!

We pretty much headed back to the train station after dinner but not before a trip to boots for some unnecessary cosmetic shopping.
